The national criminal laws disallow all from trafficking the<span>\u00a0<\/span><span>counterfeit<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>goods<span>\u00a0<\/span><span>or<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>any services. This not only applies to counterfeiter but also to any company<span>\u00a0<\/span><span>or<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>individual that intentionally sells and promotes<span>\u00a0<\/span><span>counterfeit<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>products.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Impact on the World Economy<br \/><\/strong><span>A<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>study that primarily focuses on infringement of trademarks, copyrights, patents, and design rights that follows and completes an earlier study from the OECD which was published in the year 2008.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The main findings were:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>From records of the world trade in 2013, it was seen that the international trade of counterfeit<span><\/span><span><\/span>,<span>\u00a0<\/span><span>fake<\/span>, pirated and second-hand items take up to<span>\u00a0<\/span><span>a<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>value of 2.5%.<\/li>\n<li>China stands tall as<span><\/span><span><\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>the largest<span>\u00a0<\/span><span>fake<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>goods-producing economy.\n<p><em>There has been a\u00a0significant increase in the use of small shipments. The sellers of\u00a0counterfeit\u00a0items use this medium. This is also increasing due to the surge in e-commerce. This medium reduced the risk of getting tracked and thus getting caught.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span>A<\/span><span>\u00a0p<\/span>roduct can be considered \u201c<span>Counterfeit<\/span>\u201d if:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The items directly mimic brand product or<span><\/span><span><\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>logo.<\/li>\n<li>The items are sold under a<span><\/span><span><\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>name that sounds similar<span>\u00a0<\/span><span>or<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>is identical to the original brand they are copying from.<\/li>\n<li>Items that look like a<span><\/span><span><\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>brand<span>\u00a0<\/span><span>or<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>logo.<\/li>\n<li>Items that mimic brand designs or<span><\/span><span><\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>patterns.<\/li>\n<li>Items that display brand names in product photos.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to spot<span>\u00a0a<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>Genuine product?<br \/><\/strong>The best protection is to know the product. But there are always some loopholes which can help us identify the<span>\u00a0<\/span><span>fake<\/span>.<br \/>For instance, if the product is unusually cheap, crookedly stitched with low-quality materials, the dimensions that don\u2019t match with the standard ones we can just stop and ask ourselves why is it so, and there you go, your answer lie there!
